Red Fife Wheat

Triticum aesitivum ssp aesitivum Heirloom A Canadian national botanical treasure first grown by farmer David Fife in 1842 in Peterborough, Ontario. Became the premier whole wheat baking flour in North America in the 19th century for its flavor. After falling into obscurity with the rise of the uniformity of mass produced bread now seeing a bright revival among artisan bakers. Can be grown as a winter and spring wheat on the temperate west coast. Grown by local farmer Doug Mosel of the Mendocino Grain Project. ~200 seeds
