Hopi Red Dye Amaranth

Amaranthus cruentus  Heirloom 5-7' tall plant with intense red inflorescences yielding amino acid rich edible black seeds . Nutrient rich leaves a good summer green. Used traditionally by Hopi families to color Piki; a nixtamalized corn batter cooked in thin sheets on hot stones. A great example of a multipurpose grain plant adapted to boldly thrive where other grains fear to tread. ~100 seeds.
